How it works

Most shoes cut you off from the ground

Standing barefoot on grass, sand or soil puts your skin in direct contact with the earth. That’s grounding. Rubber and foam soles are insulators, so in ordinary shoes the connection stops at your feet.

Copper grounding rivet

A copper rivet runs through the sole beneath the ball of your foot. Your skin touches it on the inside; the ground touches it on the outside.

02

All-leather, no rubber

Vegetable-tanned leather insole and outsole, stitched with waxed cotton thread. No synthetic foam between you and the earth.

Shaped like a real foot

A wide toe box lets your toes spread. A zero-drop, flexible sole lets your feet move and feel the ground the way they do barefoot.

Where it works

Wear them wherever the earth is

Grounding happens on natural, conductive surfaces. A little moisture, like morning dew or damp sand, makes the connection even better.

Grass & lawns
Grass & lawns Your backyard is the easiest place to start.
Sand & shoreline Damp sand near the water connects best.
Garden soil
Garden soil Planting, weeding, pottering around.
Earth trails
Earth trails Packed dirt, gravel and stone paths.

Good to know: asphalt, wooden decks, tile and indoor floors don’t conduct. On those you’ll still get the comfort of a barefoot shoe, just not the ground connection. For the best contact, wear them without socks.

The research

What scientists are finding

Grounding is a young field of research. The early, peer-reviewed studies are small, and promising.

These studies were small and mostly used grounding mats or patches rather than footwear. EarthingFlow shoes are not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Contact us
How do grounding shoes work?

A copper rivet passes through the leather sole under the ball of your foot. Inside, it touches your skin; outside, it touches the ground. On natural surfaces like grass, sand and soil, that gives you the same contact with the earth as walking barefoot.

Which surfaces do they work on?

Grass, soil, sand, unsealed concrete, stone and gravel. Slightly damp ground works best. Asphalt, wood, vinyl, tile and carpet don’t conduct.

Do I wear them with socks?

For a ground connection, wear them barefoot so your skin touches the rivet. The soft leather lining is designed to be comfortable without socks.

How do they fit?

True to size with a roomy toe box. Pick the option that includes your usual size. The leather softens and molds to your foot, and size exchanges are free.

Is there a break-in period?

Most people find them comfortable from day one. If you’re new to flat, zero-drop shoes, start with a few hours a day for the first week or two while your feet and calves adjust.

Can they get wet?

Dew and damp ground are fine and even improve the connection. Avoid soaking them. If they get wet, let them air-dry away from direct heat and condition the leather now and then.

What’s your return policy?

You have 45 days to try them. If they’re not right for you, return them for a full refund. Wrong size? We’ll exchange it for free.
